Even though that is true, the launch does not mean Ubisoft had the largest total sales. However, Ubisoft clearly benefited from early luck because success seemed unlikely given the controversy before the release. Better than nothing at all, isn’t it?
Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ first-day sales revenue has pleased Ubisoft.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows had the second-highest day one sales revenue, according to Ubisoft’s investor press release. Ubisoft’s first-day performance on the PlayStation digital store set a new record. Additionally, they revealed that gamers were satisfied with the game and left overwhelmingly positive reviews.
In terms of player count and sales, Shadows has surpassed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which they even compared to it. According to Ubisoft, the performance of the most recent entry confirms Assassin’s Creed’s tenacity as a brand.
With a strong community response demonstrating that the team created an experience that appeals to both new players and devoted fans, the game’s performance further solidifies the Assassin’s Creed brand’s strength and tenacity.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has received a lot of positive feedback, so Ubisoft feels comfortable releasing free content. They have forecast that the franchise will perform well in the 25th and 26th fiscal years, and they are optimistic about the release of the Claws of Awaji expansion. That will add a new explorable area to the story, continuing it after the epilogue.
Since Assassin’s Creed: Shadows uses the latest version of Ubisoft’s exclusive Anvil Engine, it features technological advancements. This engine creates rich worlds with dynamic physics and environmental interactivity, setting the standard for upcoming Ubisoft projects.
Ubisoft’s investor press release makes all of this sound good, but will this hold true in practice?

The gaming market moves quickly, just like any other market. Ubisoft focused its press release on accomplishments rather than difficulties and failures because investors care mostly about numbers. After all, who wants to lose their funding?
A few points need mentioning here. Ubisoft is only discussing the first day’s launch figures. Since the March 20, 2025 launch, they haven’t shared monthly revenue details. Additionally, Ubisoft hasn’t disclosed the total number of copies sold—only announcements about the overall number of players participating in the game.
Since the game is also available on Ubisoft Plus, it’s unclear if the disclosed numbers represent absolute sales. It may be a less expensive way for many players to play the game. which may instead result in lower earnings than game sales.
Together, the Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six Siege franchises attracted 30 million unique players. Since subscription players are included in those numbers, it’s clear Ubisoft isn’t revealing actual sales figures. Additionally, they reported a loss of 82.6 million euros from FY 2024 to FY 2025. So, these small victories don’t hide the bigger problems.
