Since Elden Ring Nightreign has been the talk of the town for a while, people are curious about what new horrors FromSoftware will include this time around as the release date draws nearer every day.
Unexpectedly, a former Dark Souls 2 boss is returning in FromSoftware’s next game, and she has reprimanded many archanophobes. Naturally, Duke’s Dear Freja is on our minds, and this is a guide on how to defeat her in the Elden Ring spinoff.
Nightreign is recognizing the former managers of FromSoft.
Elden Ring Nightreign was revealed at the 2024 Game Awards, and after more than six months of anticipation, the game will be released on this month’s 30th. Duke’s Dear Freja, a boss from Dark Souls 2, is making a spectacular comeback with the same design and attack pattern, IGN recently announced on their Instagram page.
Dark Souls 2’s Duke’s Dear Freja is a huge, two-headed spider that guards the Writhing Ruin in Brightstone Cove Tseldora, preventing players from entering. In addition to having two heads, the spider also has a strong shell with high resistance, making her two heads the only weak spot that helps us win.
In Dark Souls 2, Duke’s Dear Frerja employs a wide variety of moves and combos. In Nightreign, the boss is likely to employ her previous moveset, which consists of
- She stomps her legs two to four times during leg stomps.
- Soul Bolt: Deals a great deal of damage by launching an unblockable beam of light.
- Web/Acid Spit: The boss will either shoot webs to slow the player down or acid to harm them.
- Body Slam: When she lands, she will try to crush the player after leaping into the air.
- Spiderlings: Every few minutes, the boss also calls forth tiny spiders that spawn and deal damage.
In Nightreign, the best strategy to combat the spider is to first designate a teammate to handle the spiderlings. This person will distract or care for the spiderlings and prevent them from touching other players. You can attack the spider’s weak spots, which are both of its heads, while your teammate takes the aggro.
Things to watch out for when facing her in Nightreign

To make it enjoyable and feasible for the entire team to defeat the enormous two-headed spider, you can employ this tactic, switching between your teammates. The Soul Bolt, which will kill you instantly, and the Web and Acid Spit, which will either slow you down or deal a lot of damage, are the moves you should watch out for. You have a better chance of hitting the head right away if you stay right up on her legs when she performs her Leg Stomps move.
Duke’s Dear Freja’s appearance is a tribute to the franchise’s legacy and a reminder that no horror is ever really gone—rather, it just changes—whether you’re an experienced Soulsborne player or a newcomer to the genre.
So, be ready, mobilize your supporters, and above all, never give up, no matter how many times you have to try.
